My Future Role as a Leader

“This material has helped me think about my future role as a leader in the following ways.”.... that I need to learn to stand up and be a leader instead of a follower. Often times I chose not to make decisions because I hate to be wrong, and I hate to have others disappointed in me. However, I know sometimes I get so disgusted when certain things don't go right (just say with a project) and I know that I could have made a difference, but I choose to sit back and not say anything. I will have to work on my attitude and my non-verbal communication skills in order to become a leader.

WE #1 - Character

Character is the ethics, values, and morals that someone has installed in them. Your character defines how another person "sees" you and thinks of you. Character could be everything from; trusting, dependable, honest, hardworking, good moral standing, etc. Often times, employers will look at a person's character when considering hiring them or promoting them. I think that character traits are learned at a young age, from the environment you are raised in. --- The one character trait that I know I have in me, but I do struggle with sometimes is--being dependable to be on time! I will procrastinate doing things until later, that often makes me run late for an appointment or to work. This is not an everyday event, but it does happen!

Personal Ethics

Life Principles:
  1. honest
  2. intergity
  3. trustworthly
  4. responsible
  5. determined
  6. flexible
  7. loving
  8. dependable
  9. selfless
  10. OLD

I believe ethics are our principles and beliefs that we have instilled in us and that we use in our personal life and professional lives. The ethics that we have and use will help us in determining if and how we react to situations. Most people who are hard-workers, dependable, and responsible are that one's who were raised on good, moral standards which develops into great work ethic traits. The development of ethics lead to how you live your life: life principles. If you choose, to always be dependable, then that is how you will lead your life, no matter what circumstances may occur. People will good. solid principles are the ones that succeed in life and are "rich" regardless of financial wealth.

Teamwork

Name one concept you learned about teamwork in this chapter that you believe will benefit you the most in the workplace, and explain why.

I wish that I could make a PowerPoint of this chapter and present it to my Supervisors and fellow coworkers!!! The concept that struck me the most is FLEXIBILITY. As a team, supervisors and workers have to work together to accomplish all goals. However, sometimes you have supervisors that only want it to be done their way and never will take into consideration that others may have a better approach when trying to get something completed. That's where FLEXIBILITY comes in. The supervisor needs to be flexible when it comes to the workers ideas and thoughts. The workers also have to be willing to accept what the supervisor wants and how they want it. Some supervisors may feel that if they listen to the workers, then that will lower their "status" on the chain, but in reality that will gain them respect from the workers.----I have learned over the past few months to be more flexible when it comes to areas of the workplace. I can not control everything, so I stopped trying. I accepted others ideas and thoughts, and learned to live with them. If I was told to do something that was outside my daily assigned routine, then I did...and just documented it for further references!

This material has helped me think about how I manage my stress in the following ways......I will be the first to admit that I do get EXTREMELY stressed in certain situations and I react awful when confronted during that time. Most of my friends, say that I have a split personality when this happens--they have even given me a name---Sybill!. After watching the videos, I have never thought to actually just focus on one item--for a short time--in order to calm myself down and refocus. I think that I will focus on an item, and do the old thing of counting to 10, in order to focus. Two steps is better then one!

Talk..Talk..

I have learned that I need to be more mindful of my surroundings when it comes to talking on the phone or to others. I know that I get carried away with conversations, and some of the topics may not be appropriate for everyone to hear. Not only that, but I do become very distracted when I am talking.
